Common Complaints and Reliability

  • 1. Electric power steering

    • "Electric power steering" while driving the steering does not center causing you to have to recorrect constantly. It seems like a safety issue but toyota swindled their way out of a recall.
    • "Electric power steering" consumer writes in regards to several recalls listed for vehicle, consumer seeks replacement vehicle at no cost/fair trade.

  • 2. Airbag recalls

    • "Takata recall". Vehicle purchased on 4/27/2017. Recall notice received approximately 1 week later. Called the dealer car purchased it through, they told consumer when he receive a letter from Toyota that the airbags are available, to call back. It has been almost 5 months and the vehicle has not yet been repaired. Consumer really would like car repaired soon, as the weather here in rochester is going to get snowy in the next few months. I want to feel safe in my car, as I transport my daughter that is 3 1/2 years old. Can you please give me some guidance as to how I can get my vehicle repaired soon?
    • "Takata recall". The consumer received notice of problem and felt the manufacturer has not resolved this issue quickly.
    • "Takata recall". Customer has not been able to get a resolution to the airbag recall issue yet which they feel is taking too long.
    • "Takata recall". Recall was on may 23, 2016, over one year ago, no action from toyota
    • "Takata recall" no remedy for my passenger airbag yet. Its taking too long. I cant have a front passenger with me.

  • 3. Brake issues

    • Power brake assist. Delay or lag when applying brakes*cw when applying the brakes, the pedal would have a soft spot with no reaction and then become responsive.
    • Brake pedal suddenly felt soft as if there was air in the brake line. Brake only worked when you pumped fast. Otherwise the pedal would go down to the floor. I took the car to the dealership, they verified the complaint, and fixed the problem for free. They replaced the master cylinder and fluid. Brakes were fine until 3 weeks ago, april 23, 2012. Exactly the same happened, thank goodness as I was driving slowly. Took the car back in and they acknowledged the problem. They concluded it was a faulty part.
    • Brakes are scrubbing harshly when weather is damp.

  • 4. Other issues

    • A nail got stuck in the tire when the vehicle was in motion
    • The driver's seat belt buckle does not function properly, and often doesn't allow the locking/closing of the buckle and belt.
    • In a stationary position, as soon as I turn my car over my engine will be at a higher rpm than what it should and it won't run as good as it should.

  • 5. Unspecified

    • Two problems, 1) accelerator is hard to modulate when starting from a stop, will go at higher speed than wanted. 2) once in a while when coming to a stop, the brakes feel like they pulse, or the vehicle just hit a small patch of ice when there was no ice. A weird feeling. I don't know if the car actually goes a few feet further than I wanted it to or if there is just a pulse that makes you feel that way.
    • We received a recall notice for the air bags and have not received a resolution yet. We have not been sitting in the passenger seat since we received notice in may or june 2016.
