Common Complaints and Reliability

  • 1. Software/System Update Issue:

    • Two weeks ago, Toyota updated its Entune navigation software with a flawed system update that eliminated the voice command system for phones, navigation, etc. Toyota has failed to provide public notification of the problem and has not yet come up with a solution to correct it, resulting in a safety hazard.

  • 2. Pre-Collision System Malfunction:

    • The pre-collision system is not operating correctly, with no warning beeps, flashing brake light on the dash, and no automatic braking when driving over 10 mph and a crash is about to happen. Toyota customer service denies there is a problem, but testing by a technician shows that the PCS does not work as intended.

  • 3. Accelerator Pedal Issue:

    • The accelerator pedal needs to be depressed multiple times for the vehicle to accelerate to normal speeds, even when the pedal is depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle has not been taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs, and the manufacturer has not been made aware of the issue.

  • 4. Brake Warning Indicator Illuminated:

    • While driving at approximately 70 mph, the brake warning indicator illuminated, but the brake pedal operated properly. The vehicle was towed to a dealership for evaluation, but no diagnosis or repair was done. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.

  • 5. Rear-End Stability Problem:

    • The Camry Hybrid's rear end is unstable while making turns on well-maintained city streets, resulting in fishtailing. This issue has occurred multiple times, even at low speeds and on damp pavement. The vehicle is dealership-maintained, and the tires are in good condition, but the problem persists, leading to safety concerns.
